We specialize in nineteenth and early twentieth century American expatriate artists and their European contemporaries.

During this time period, and, due to the lack of formalized art training in the United States, it was common for serious American artists, who had the means, to pursue their artistic training abroad at the great academies in Europe.  In some instances, these artists became enamored with their surroundings, and decided to reside permanently in their host countries.

However, they maintained their ties to the United States by exhibiting there, and accepting formal commissions, which required their presence on their home turf for extended periods.
